Dr John Kennedy

Dr. John Kennedy is Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Foot and Ankle Surgery at NYU Langone Health. As director of the Foot and Ankle Center, he specializes in Achilles tendon injuries, ankle instability, ligament reconstruction, and osteochondral lesions. His practice emphasizes tailored, patient-specific care, utilizing both surgical and nonsurgical approaches, including advanced orthobiologic therapies such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), stem cell therapy, and fat cell therapy.

Dr. Kennedy graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1989 and has practiced in Ireland and the United States. His passion for sports medicine was ignited by a tibial fracture sustained during a rugby match, inspiring a focus on complex foot and ankle injuries. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed studies and delivered more than 500 presentations on topics including cartilage regeneration, tendon healing, and bone growth.

A leader in minimally invasive techniques, Dr. Kennedy was the first orthopedic surgeon in the United States to perform nano-arthroscopy in an office setting. This groundbreaking procedure uses ultra-small instruments to treat conditions with patients fully awake, reducing risks associated with general anesthesia. Patients can observe their procedures in real time and walk out immediately afterward without downtime. Dr. Kennedy has authored over 20 peer-reviewed studies and technical guides on nano-arthroscopy and is regarded as a pioneer in the field.

Dr. Kennedy’s expertise spans innovative surgical techniques, orthobiologics, and advanced approaches like nano-arthroscopy, ensuring patients benefit from the latest advancements in foot and ankle care.
