He took a nontraditional route in becoming a hand surgeon, first attending dental school and then medical school, followed by a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery.  He subsequently completed fellowships in plastic surgery and orthopaedic hand surgery.  In addition to clinical practice, he has an interest in education and currently serves as the Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship Director at the University of Rochester.  During his 13 years at UR, he has trained orthopaedic and plastic surgery residents in hand surgery, with 24 going on to pursue hand and upper extremity fellowships after residency. His research interests are predominantly clinical, with a focus on outcomes and evidence based medicine.

He is currently active in the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, currently serving as a board member at large and Editor of Hand-e, which is the electronic education platform for ASSH.  He has served on multiple committees as a member and chair and has been involved in teaching at regional and national courses.  He is also involved in the American Association for Hand Surgery, serving on committees and was a previous board member. Outside of hand surgery, he spends time with wife and children and is avid sports fan, closely following college athletics at Oklahoma State University.  He is also passionate about cycling.
